Erythromycin Opthalmic Ointment USP 0.5% 3.5g

Precautions

Erythromicin is contraindicated in animals with a known hypersensitivity to this drug or those, which are allergic to dyes or preservatives. It should not be used in the eyes, if the pet is already suffering from a viral or fungal eye infection as it is effective only for bacterial infections. Its safety in pregnant and nursing pets is not established hence it is advisable to take the veterinarian's advice in this regard.The sterility of the medicine should be strictly maintained and the applicator should not come into contact with the eyes of the pet. The medicine should not be used more often than directed and the full course of treatment has to be completed even if the condition improves.

Side Effects

Serious side effects are rare during treatment with this medication. However, some minor side effects such as blurred vision, burning, irritation, itching or redness of eyes and sensitivity to light may occur. In such cases, the veterinarian could be consulted to decide the future course of action.
